Notice is hereby given that the Civil Service Commission of Upper Darby Township will hold a written examination at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Monsignor Bonner and Archbishop Prendergast School, 403 North Lansdowne Avenue, Drexel Hill, PA 19026 for applicants to qualify for appointment to the rank of a firefighter in the Upper Darby Township Fire Department. The lifetime of the eligible list will be up to three (3) years from the date of preparation, however, the Commission may terminate the list earlier and schedule a new examination at its direction.
Applicants shall be at least (18) years of age within sixty (60) days following the date of the written examination and have a valid driver's license and a high school diploma or high school equivalency certification. Applications must be fully completed. Applicants must pass the written firefighter civil service test with a minimum grade of seventy (70) and must pass a firefighter oral civil service test with a minimum grade of seventy (70).
Prior to the written examination, the Civil Service Commission of Upper Darby Township will hold a physical ability test at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Monsignor Bonner and Archbishop Prendergast School, 403 North Lansdowne Avenue, Drexel Hill, Pa 19026 for all applicants. The physical ability test will consist of three segments: Push-ups; Sit-ups; and a one-mile run. Applicants are required to bring two (2) forms of identification including at least one (1) photo identification. Applicants who fail the physical ability test will be disqualified from further consideration and will not be permitted to take the written examination on Saturday, April 12, 2025. The physical ability test is a mandatory requirement and any applicant who does not participate on Saturday, April 5, 2025, will be deemed to have failed.
When the applicant receives a conditional offer of employment from Upper Darby Township, the applicant shall be required to undergo a background investigation, psychological examination, and a medical examination, which will include a drug test. The cost of these tests shall be paid for by Upper Darby Township. Applicants who fail any of these tests shall be eliminated from any further consideration.
Applications may be obtained beginning Monday, January 13, 2025, in person at the Upper Darby Township Fire Department Headquarters, 7216 West Chester Pike. Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Applications are also available to be downloaded and printed from our website, www.upperdarby.org/firefighter.
Applications for the firefighter examination must be complete and returned to the Upper Darby Fire Headquarters, 7216 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, Pa. no later than 12:00 p.m. Friday March 21, 2025.
